We have to say this has been a real favourite of late.
Chianti is a term I'm sure most, if not all, wine lovers will be familiar with, and perhaps Chianti DOCG or Chianti Classico.. the latter the better quality regarded by the wine world and stricter measures to adhere too.
We adore this addition to the portfolio..
Rarely, have we seen any with such genuine poise and generous fruit showing without paying a small fortune from a special vintage.. and then laying down the wine for years on end for optimum enjoyment!
At the affordable end of the scale of Chianti, often the wines can be found to be under ripe or overly oaked.
Not any more.. would be.. Chianti lovers!
This is a rich and full style of Chianti with good fruit intensity; dark cherry and ripe redcurrants with
elegant tannins and hints of spice.
This estate, run by the third generation of the the Menichetti family, has 25 hectares under vine and is located up in the San Casciano commune. Orsumella is the name of a stream that flows through the estate's vineyards and is said to reflect the stars of the Little Bear constellation during summer nights.
The wine is 100% Sangiovese, and after the hand-picked grapes have undergone a 20 day fermentation and a further malolactic fermentation the wine is aged for 10 months in french oak barrels.
Food match: Charcuterie.. lots and lots of Charcuterie! (Or a Three bean stew with tomatoes, aubergine and Italian herbs)
